The training for the “Master of Veterinary Sciences” degree aims to deepen knowledge in a particular option within the field of veterinary sciences, introduce research techniques, and familiarize with methods of analysis, reasoning, and construction of an adapted investigation/or experimentation protocol. Access to this training is open, thru a competitive examination, to holders of a graduation diploma as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
From 2003 to 2015, the ENSV offered several master’s programs in veterinary sciences, in various disciplines:
- Zootechny
- Parasitic zoonoses
- Hygiene and food safety
- Poultry and rabbit farming pathology
- Nutrition and reproduction of cattle
- Quality control and food analysis
- Poultry farming, pathology, and industry
- Veterinary medical microbiology
- Infectious zoonoses: diagnostics and therapeutics
For the 2015-2016 academic year, four options for a Master’s degree in Veterinary Sciences were accredited by the MESRS:
- Pathology and surgery of ruminants.
- Genetic improvement and management of the biodiversity of domestic animals.
- Animal immunology.
- Epidemiology of animal diseases and public health.
Magister Regulations
The training for the magister degree aims to deepen knowledge in a particular scientific field, introduce research techniques, and familiarize with methods of analysis, reasoning, and construction of an appropriate investigation/or experimentation protocol.
Article 1.3: Access to training for the magister degree is open, thru a competitive examination, to holders of a graduation diploma of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or a foreign diploma recognized as equivalent.
Article 1.4: The procedures for organizing the competitions are specified by order of the Minister in Charge of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Article 1.5: Access to training for the magister degree is open without competition to the top graduates, upon completion of their undergraduate studies. The top graduate is the candidate who, at the end of their undergraduate studies, has obtained the highest overall average, calculated based on all the years of the curriculum followed without repeating any. Only one position, per authorized master’s program, is reserved for the top graduate.
Article 1.6: The list of admitted candidates is established by the scientific council of the concerned university entity.
Article 1.7: Studies for the magister degree last two (02) years and are formalized by two consecutive annual registrations.
Article 1.8: The training for obtaining the magister degree includes:
- theoretical courses practical or laboratory courses in disciplines where these courses are necessary.
- the teaching of a foreign language with a view to its use in the relevant field of research.
- methodological, pedagogical, or research teachings.
- conferences, presentations, workshops, and seminars.
- the preparation of a thesis.
- attendance at all activities that make up the curriculum is mandatory.
Article 1.9: The candidate admitted after the examinations commits to a period of internship.
Article 1.10: The internship period carried out in a laboratory or with an institution specialized in the field of interest helps the candidate choose the research area for their future doctoral thesis. This internship, lasting 4 to 5 semesters, is marked by the preparation, writing, and oral defense before a jury of an individual research initiation thesis.
Article 1.11: The defense of the master’s thesis takes place publicly before a jury comprising at least three faculty members of professorial rank or researchers holding at least the rank of research fellow. The overall average is calculated with equal weighting from the average of the exams and the grade for the thesis defense.
Article 1.12: Only those with the grades “VERY GOOD,” “GOOD,” and “FAIR” can enrolll in a doctoral thesis.
