The National Higher Veterinary School of Algiers (ENSV) is a public higher education institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS). Created by presidential decree No. 65-69 of March 11, 1965, and founded in 1970, the ENSV was promoted to the rank of Grande École in 2008 (Executive Decree No. 08-214 of July 14, 2008).
Localization
The new ENSV site, inaugurated in September 2014, is located in El Alia, about fifteen kilometers east of the capital. The School is located near the University of Science and Technology of Bab Ezzouar (USTHB), the El Alia university residences, and the Beaulieu Leisure Park.

Training
The ENSV trains Veterinary Doctors after a five-year curriculum, divided into a pre-clinical cycle (three years) and a clinical cycle (two years). The School also organizes postgraduate courses in veterinary medicine, leading to a Master’s and a Doctorate in Veterinary Sciences.
For the 2019-2020 academic year, the School has 702 students enrolled in undergraduate programs and 141 in postgraduate programs. The ENSV also promotes continuing education activities for executives in user sectors, related to the institution’s areas of specialization. A body consisting of 94 permanent teacher-researchers ensures the supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education programs.
Scientific Research
The ENSV contributes to the development of research in the field of veterinary sciences and public health. The School is equipped with three Research Laboratories:
- Laboratory of Animal Health and Production (SPA), accredited in 2006 and composed of 6 research teams.
- Laboratory of Food Hygiene and Quality Assurance System (HASAQ), accredited in 2011 and composed of 4 research teams.
- Laboratory for the Management of Local Animal Resources (GRAL) accredited in 2016 and composed of four research teams.
Services Provided
The ENSV provides services open to the public. General medicine and surgery consultations for pets are handled within the institution. Consultations for livestock animals take place at the owners’ premises during outpatient clinical activities. Anti-rabies vaccination of domestic carnivores, biochemistry analyzes, parasitology, microbiology, histopathology diagnostics, and expert assessments are also among the services offered by the School.
ENSV infrastructures
The new ENSV headquarters covers a total area of 23,600 m². The educational and research facilities include:
- 4 Amphitheaters with capacities of 300, 250, 250, and 100 seats respectively.
- 6 Lecture and tutorial rooms.
- 22 Laboratories dedicated to practical work and clinical activities.
- 3 Research Laboratories.
- 1 Pedagogical block dedicated to continuing education.
- 1 Multimedia room with 40 workstations equipped with computers connected to the internet.
- 1 Library with a total capacity of 450 seats.
- 1 Tele-teaching room for 20 stations.
